Greenway Communities Grant Program: Projects funded under this program include those that relate to community planning, economic development, natural resource protection, cultural resource protection, scenic resource protection, and open space protection. Recent grants awarded by the Hudson River Valley Greenway include:

  • Town of Marbletown, Ulster County ($10,000): To develop a sustainable economic development project (June 2009)
  • Town of Cairo, Greene County ($5,000): The Town is interested in implementing the adopted comp plan by developing a zoning law. (March 2009)
  • City of Mechanicville, Saratoga County ($5,500): To implement phase 2 of the downtown gateway and signage project to promote tourism. (March 2009)
  • Town of Montgomery, Orange County ($25,000): The Town of Montgomery, villages of Maybrook, Montgomery, and Walden joined together on a collaborative project to produce a local economic development plan containing strategies to promote growth.

Greenway Compact Grant Program: Funding for municipalities that develop, approve, and implement a regional compact strategy consistent with the Greenway criteria and the Greenway act. Recent grants awarded by the Hudson River Valley Greenway include:

  • Village of Millbrook, Dutchess County ($10,000): Grant will aid in funding for a comprehensive plan update to be consistent with Dutchess County’s Greenway Compact. (October 2008)
  • Town of Union Vale, Dutchess County ($12,500): Grant will aid in funding for an amendment to the 2002 zoning law needed to facilitate the creation of a new town center. (October 2008)
  • Village of Ossining, Westchester County ($15,000): Village seeks to create a Waterfront Recreational Resource Plan to identify ways to promote water-related uses on their 3 miles of HR waterfront. The plan will outline strategies to increase public access, catalog existing recreational assests, and engage stakeholders to determine demand for enhancements and present various scenarios for upgrades. (October 2008)
  • Village of Rye Brook, Westchester County ($15,000): The Village of Rye Brook Comprehensive Plan will involve outreach to Westchester County and surrounding municipalities, and Greenwich, CT and will be consistent with Westchester’s Compact Initiative. (October 2008)
  • Town of Red Hook with Village of Tivoli, Village of Red Hook, Red Hook Central School District, Dutchess County ($15,000): These communities partnered together to create an open space plan that would identify priority areas for preservation within the Town that would better balance economic development with natural and cultural resource protection. (March 2004)

Greenway Water Trail Grant Program: Assistance to launch and camp site owners to help implement the Hudson River Water Trail. Projects include creation of new launches or campsites, potable water, parking and restroom facilities, interpretive kiosks, and identification flags. Recent grants awarded by the Hudson River Valley Greenway include:

  • Town of Coeymans, Albany County ($11,750) : Funding to develop a boat launch site. (June 2009)
  • Town of Halfmoon, Saratoga County ($35,000): Funding to create a recreation park on the Hudson River, develop boating facilities and provide a connection between the water front park and the Champlain canal trail. (June 2009)
  • Hudson River Maritime Museum, Ulster County ($10,000): For the development of an access dock to the Rondout Creek at the Hudson River Maritime Museum for launching rowing shells, kayaks, and canoes.

Greenway Conservancy Small Grant Program: Funding for trail planning, constructing and amenities, historic landscape preservation, regional and local partnerships as well as many other resource enhancement and economic development projects. Recent grants awarded by the Hudson River Valley Greenway for the 2009 Grant Round include:

  • Wave Hill ($7,500): Wave Hill Woodlands Trail Repair
  • Town of Kinderhook, ($10,000): Kinderhook-Stuyvesant-Stockport Intermunicipal Trail Feasibility Study
  • City of Middletown ($18,000): Orange Heritage Trail-Middletown Extension Project
  • Hudson Highlands Nature Museum ($7,500): Pre-School Discovery Trail
  • Boscobel Restoration, Inc. ($5,750): Rehabilitation of Trail from Woodland Trail to Constitution Marsh
  • Hudson Valley Rail Trail Association, Inc. ($1,500): Hudson Valley Rail Trail Brochure
  • County of Ulster ($7,000): Sojourner Truth Ulster Landing County Park ADA Access Trail Construction
  • Southern Ulster Alliance/Town of New Paltz ($17,750): Southern Ulster Alliance Recreation Trail Project
  • Village of Dobb's Ferry ($10,000): Dobbs Ferry Old Croton Aqueduct Trail Restoration
  • Village of Tarrytown with Sleepy Hollow ($10,000): Tarrytown Lakes Trail Extension
